Description

Ex. Hutten-Czapski Peter I Rarity

Peter I gold Medallic Polupoltina of 3 Ducats 1702 AU Details (Removed from Jewelry) NGC, Kadashevsky mint, Diakov-M4 (this coin), Bitkin-3865 (R3), Severin-Unl. 10.19gm. Struck to a weight of 3 Ducats. Among the most thrilling representatives of early Russian gold this cataloger has yet witnessed, and a feat considering the quality and depth within this very auction. On offer is an astounding and enigmatic emission, struck with a weight of 3 Ducats and to the size of a Polupoltina (1/4 Rouble), whose importance and rarity was clearly recognized and previously mounted as jewelry - a similar treatment we often encounter to contemporary gold emissions of Russia's European neighbors. While the origins and purpose of this piece remain largely a mystery, the piece's inclusion in some of Russia's greatest collections, Hutten-Czapski and Soedermann, is incredibly telling of its overall importance. Despite evidence of use in jewelry and an earlier cleaning, the piece retains impressive detail, with all devices fully impressed on the golden planchet and embellished by a gentle amber silhouetting to the peripheries. Boasting the instantly recognizable countermark of famed numismatist, Count Emeryk Hutten-Czapski, one can only imagine what prominent collection this piece will make its way to next!

1702年彼得一世Polupoltina(3杜卡特)金章。AU Details (Removed from Jewelry) NGC。
