Peter II gold Novodel 2 Roubles 1727-Dated MS64 NGC, KM-NK10, Bitkin-H13 (R3), Fr-104. The finer of two of these emphatically rare gold Novodel issues from the rule of Peter II available in this sale, which, before this collection surfaced, had never appeared at auction with Heritage. This sublime specimen displays a later die state for the reverse than the following piece, the die break in the upper right quadrant being much more advanced here. The strike and the quality of the surfaces of the coin on offer are exemplary, the smooth satin sheen of mint luster gracefully occupying every centimeter of the golden caramel flan. It's hard to imagine a more pristine example of the type exists, though if it does, it couldn't be by much, because this piece is a true beauty. An elite Peter II specimen, surely destined for an illustrious collection of Russian numismatics.
