Scarce 8x5 Stars Variety

1799 $1 8x5 Stars, B-23, BB-159, R.4, VF20 NGC. Ex: The Peh Family Collection. Bowers-Borckardt Die State I. Traces of luster seem to cling to protected areas, although noticeable wear is present on the cheek, bust truncation, and eagle's upper right wing. E PLURIBUS UNUM is legible, and the lower wings and hair tresses are surprisingly detailed. This is the only die marriage with just five stars on the right side of the obverse, while eight stars are crowded along the left border.
