1800 B-8, BB-188 Dollar, AU50
Original Charcoal-Gray Surfaces

1800 $1 B-8, BB-188, R.4, AU50 PCGS. Ex: The Peh Family Collection. Bowers-Borckardt Die State I. Charcoal-gray surfaces are illuminated by peach-gold toning, with hints of steel-blue on the reverse. Light abrasions are present on the obverse, but none are notable individually. This obverse is easily identified by the die lump at the base of the left upright of the R in LIBERTY. The present example is the early die state with none of the three reverse cracks that eventually develop on this die.(Registry values: N2998)
