Qing Dynasty. "Jin Qian Yi Ji" Membership Token ND (1858-1862) Certified 82 by Gong Bo Grading, 38.2x2.2mm. 16.9gm. A token laced in historical mystery, produced during the reign of Xian Feng but created for the a secret group called the "Golden Coin Society" as a badge of loyalty. This secret society was formed in 1858 by eight people but it would grow in numbers and eventually become a main supporting force against the Qing Dynasty in 1861 during the Taiping Rebellion. These token coins, which were the inspiration behind the society's name, would be displayed at members' waists, often accompanied by red headbands.
