Large Date, No Stars, F-101
Rare in Proof Format

1837 10C No Stars, Large Date, F-101, R.7, PR64 NGC. It is unknown how many first-year Seated dimes were struck in proof format, but according to PCGS, 25 or 30 proofs are known. They are all from Large Date Fortin-101 dies, which also struck pieces for circulation. Proofs can be distinguished from the commercial pieces by the presence of heavy die lines on the obverse rim near 7 o'clock. Housed in a Generation 4 fatty holder. This desirable near-Gem exhibits vibrant ocean-blue toning on the obverse. The reverse is patinated rose-red, blue-green, and golden-brown. NGC Census: 11 in 64, 5 finer (12/25).
