Austrian Netherlands: Insurrection 3 Florins 1790 MS63 NGC,...
Description
Insurrection 3 Florins 1790 MS63 NGC, Brussels mint, KM50, Dav-1285, Vanhoudt-870, Delm-395. Struck immediately after the insurrection against Habsburg rule, often referred to as the Brabant Revolution. The revolt was precipitated by changes made by Joseph II in the 1780s that were perceived as being anti-Catholic. The design selected for this coinage is interesting in that the obverse bears uncanny resemblance to the Calvinist issues coming out of Zurich about the same time this piece was struck. An important Crown-size issue in Belgian numismatic history, seen here with silvery gray lustrous surfaces and accents of darker patina that serve to frame and enhance the devices.Metal: Silver
Diameter: 41mm
Mintage: 44,000
Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000.
