German New Guinea: German Colony. Wilhelm II Proof 2 Mark 1894-A PR66 PCGS,...
Description
German Colony. Wilhelm II Proof 2 Mark 1894-A PR66 PCGS, Berlin mint, KM6, J-706. The second-largest denomination of the famous "Bird of Paradise" issue, struck in silver, for Germany's colonial enclave in the Pacific islands. Perhaps not as famous or as broadly collected as the larger 5 Mark Crown-size issue, but witnessing the one-of-a-kind ornithological engraving is just as captivating on a slightly more compact flan, arguably more so if you are partial to Shilling or Half Dollar size coins. This piece is one of the special representatives that have been awarded with a certification grade beyond the 65 number, and though a few technically outrank it, I think it would be safe to say this example is in the running for the most beautiful of it's kind extant. The impeccably preserved surfaces glow intently with vivid multi-color iridescence in shades that span many of the colors of the rainbow. A stunning selection that should have broad appeal because of it's visual prowess. From the Eternal Collection, Part III
