German New Guinea: German Colony. Wilhelm II 5 Mark 1894-A MS65 NGC,...
Description
Astounding Gem 5 Mark
German Colony. Wilhelm II 5 Mark 1894-A MS65 NGC, Berlin
mint, KM7, J-707, Dav-429. Perhaps the most broadly collected issue
of the great German New Guinea series, the business strike of the
Crown-sized 5 Mark. The appeal to World Crown collectors is
immense; a one-year, low-mintage type, with colonial appeal, and
one of the most celebrated coin designs ever engraved. And though
the scarcity and high-demand of the type in Mint State have created
a market for these that could never be described as insignificant,
Proof renditions in comparable condition bring dramatically higher
sums. The representative seen here is a lovely Gem Mint State
piece, the typical satin luster cascading over the beautiful
designs with just a light veil of tone to add some originality. A
crowd-pleasing selection sure to bring a smile to the face of the
collector lucky enough to bring this example home. From the Eternal Collection, Part III
