1806/5 B-1 Quarter, MS62
The Usual Late Die State
1806/5 25C B-1, R.2, MS62 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 3/3. As
on most seen, a faint die crack connects the tops of UNI on the
reverse. Expected die clashing is most easily recognized on the
reverse. Apparently, no effort was made to efface the undertype
that shows a strong overdate feature. The lower knob and loop of
the 5 is clear to the unaided eye. Well detailed beneath a somewhat
hazy coating of battleship-gray patina. A few darker flecks of
toning are noted in Liberty's hair. A splendid Mint State
representative of this sought-after overdate. PCGS Population for
coin #5315: 4 in 62, 9 finer (2/26).Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 3146.
