Description
1900 Quarter Eagle, PR68 Deep Cameo
Exceptional Quality, Very Rare
1900 $2 1/2 JD-1, Low R.4, PR68 Deep Cameo PCGS. The quality
of the 1900 quarter eagle proof coinage is excellent. To obtain
this level of excellence on proofs, the working dies were
extensively polished in the fields, which are the highest surface
of the dies. The degree of polishing was very high, to the point
where any imperfections were polished out, leaving mirror surfaces
on the dies, which transferred to mirror surfaces on the fields of
proof coins with high pressure striking. The devices were left
frosted, giving the wonderful cameo contrast. This superb example has near flawless pristine surfaces. Even under high magnification the fields and devices are close to perfection. The yellow-gold mint frost on the portrait and eagle contrast beautifully with the mirrored surfaces of the fields. The strike is full and sharp for great presentation of the design. This is a rare issue in all grades, and with this level of preservation and quality it is extremely rare. PCGS Population: 9 in 68 (4 in 68+) Deep Cameo, 0 finer (8/25).
