Description

1908 Indian Two and a Half, MS66+
Lofty CAC Example

1908 $2 1/2 MS66+ PCGS. CAC. The 1908 boasts a mintage exceeding 564,000 coins and was well saved at the time of issue. However, its availability today lies primarily in MS65 and lower grades. At the Premium Gem level, pieces are scarce, they become undeniably rare in this grade with a Plus designation and CAC endorsement. PCGS reports just 13 MS66+ examples, and CAC has stickered just 25 Premium Gems overall. Moreover, PCGS reports only five higher-grade coins, and CAC has stickered none such pieces (8/25). The current offering is, without hesitation, a Registry-quality example. Lustrous orange-gold and honey hues adorn the largely unabraded surfaces, and the design elements exhibit a sharp strike with the softness on the eagle's wing being from the die engraving only. The advanced collector will not soon find a better example of this debut issue. Population: 13 in 66+, 5 finer. CAC: 25 in 66, 0 finer (8/25).(Registry values: N4719)
