France: Napoleon III gold Proof Essai 100 Francs 1855-A AU Details (Obverse Repaired, Edge Filed) NGC,...
Description
Napoleon III gold Proof Essai 100 Francs 1855-A AU Details (Obverse Repaired, Edge Filed) NGC, Paris mint, cf. KM786.1 (for standard issue), Gad-1135, Maz-1600 (R4). Plain edge. Obverse mintmark. A fantastic experimental issue where the Paris mintmark was placed on the obverse and the Mint Master privy is situated on the reverse. Rarely does this prized Essai (though Essai is not explicitly stated on the coin) come up for auction; the damage found on this piece will keep the price relatively modest, as nice UNC examples bring significant sums. A perfect opportunity for a more budget-conscious specialist of the series to attain this coveted variant at a more reasonable price point.Metal: Gold
