Description
1880-CC Five Dollar, AU58
Low Survival Rate at This Grade or Finer
1880-CC $5 AU58 NGC. Winter 1-B. The relatively large
51,017-piece mintage required three known die marriages. A circular
die mark below the tip of the eagle's left (facing) wing confirms
the Winter 1-B variety. While the 1880-CC is moderately available
in circulated grades, it becomes scarce at the near-Mint level such
as this sharp AU58 example. Rich orange-gold color retains nearly
full mint luster and a crisp strike provides bold definition
throughout the obverse and the reverse. Only light abrasions
suggest a brief stay in circulation. NGC Census (all varieties): 56
in 58 (2 in 58+, 1 in 58★ ), 11 finer (8/25).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25XB, PCGS# 8352, Greysheet# 9070)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
