1804 1/2 C Spiked Chin, C-8, B-7, R.1, MS62 Brown PCGS. Gold
CAC. Manley Die State 2.0. Chocolate-brown, golden-biscuit, and
mustard combine on the obverse to create a sumptuous patina, with
the reverse adding in some hints of red-steel. Virtually no
abrasions of any severity are present on either side. This coin has
two superlative features: its Gold CAC sticker and its pedigree.
Achieving a Gold CAC sticker is an extremely rare occurrence, with
only six awarded to Draped Bust half cents and 34 for the
denomination in general. The pedigree also features an all-star
lineup of numismatists of the ages.Ex: Harlan P. Smith Collection (S.H. and H. Chapman, 5/1906); J.M. Clapp; John H. Clapp; Clapp Estate (1942); Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. (Bowers & Merena, 5/1996), lot 419.
