Description

1801 BD-2 Eagle, MS63
Well-Struck and Unabraded

1801 $10 BD-2, R.2, MS63 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/c. Lovely green-gold surfaces contain significant luster and a faint hint of prooflike mirroring. Abrasions are minimally noticeable. Strike is sharp across both sides, with only a touch of obverse indistinctness directly under the cap that quickly resolves itself. The reverse only displays a touch of softness at the LUR in PLURIBUS. All details on the eagle's head and breast feathers, the most common areas of weakness on Heraldic Eagle coins, are strongly and fully impressed. The 1801 BD-2 is the most common Early eagle die marriage, and Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/c, with the clash marks of the shield embedded in the cap, is the usual die state. However, the quality of the present offering is undeniable, and would make a wonderful addition to a type set.
