1559 Betts-5 Medal, AU Details
Phillip II and Isabel de Valois Marriage Medal

1559 MEDAL Phillip II and Isabel de Valois, Bronze, Betts-5 -- Tooled -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Olive-brown surfaces contain light porosity on both sides, though abrasions are minimal. This medal commemorated the marriage of Phillip II and Isabel de Valois, the 14-year old daughter of King Henry II of England and Catherine de Medici of France. Their marriage lasted for 27 years, ended by Elisabeth's 1586 death during childbirth. This medal gained its spot in the Betts reference due to the obverse legend HISPAN ET NOVA ORBIS OCCIDVI REX, which roughly translates to Phillip II, King of Spain and Conqueror of the New World.
