Beautiful Brown Dampville Viceroy of America

1658 Medal Dampville Viceroy of America, Betts-39, MS62 Brown PCGS. 50.9 mm, 4 mm thick, 64.6 gm. Medal turn, plain edge is finely filed and slightly rounded. By I. Hardy. The obverse shows bust r. in ornate armor with name and titles of Francois Christophe de Levy, Duke of Dampville, Peer of France and Viceroy (Prorex) of America). The reverse shows complex quartered Arms on mantle, legend from the Prophet Micah, For out of Thee shall come a Leader who shall rule my People. Patina is a splendid deep glossy brown. John W. Adams notes in his collection commentary, "The two Dampville medals in this consignment are from the earlier obverse die, very desirable as such."
