Gold-Tinged Surfaces
1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-11, BB-161, R.3, XF45 PCGS. Ex: The Peh
Family Collection. Bowers-Borckardt Die State III. Tinges of golden
color are seen throughout the lightly abraded silver-gray surfaces,
along with some surviving luster. This variety is distinguished by
a broken U in UNITED and a die crack from the reverse border just
above 9 o'clock to the eagle's beak. This normally seen die state
has an additional spindly die crack through the first five letters
of UNITED.Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2005), lot 6620.
