Description

1652 Oak Tree Shilling, AU50
Noe-13.6 Spiny Tree Variety

1652 Oak Tree Shilling, Spiny Tree, AU50 NGC. Noe 13.6, W-520, Salmon 11-G, R.6. 69.8 gn. IN at bottom. Olive-green and walnut-brown surfaces shimmer over well-defined devices. Unabraded and attractive with full legends save for minor mint clips on the lower obverse. This obverse was reengraved three times for a total of four varieties, Noe-13, 13.3, 13.6, and 13.9. The present Noe-13.6's dies are similar to the well known Spiny Tree variety (Noe-14), and it is cataloged as such. However, the die break between the lower right branch and the second T in MASATHVSETS has yet to be removed by an assiduous Boston Mint employee, as is found on the extremely rare Noe 13.9. The diagonal die line through the upper tree branches (as seen here) was also removed from the die before Noe-14 was coined. Listed on page 8 of the 2026 Guide Book.
