Description

1662 Oak Tree Twopence, Noe-29, AU55
CAC-Approved, Ex: Boyd, Ford

1662 Oak Tree Twopence, Small 2, Noe-29, W-240, Salmon 1-A, R.4, AU55 PCGS. CAC. Weight 12.7 grains, per the listing in Ford XII, where this piece was described as "Extremely Fine." Clearly PCGS rated the coin slightly better, hardly a surprise considering the level of luster and detail remaining on the deep silver-gray surfaces, which also show elements of violet and green-gold. The reverse is well-centered, and while the obverse is off-center as usually seen, even the letters partly off the flan are easily readable. An important and eye-appealing coin. Listed on page 8 of the 2026 Guide Book. For the various Oak Tree twopence varieties. Population: 9 in 55, 8 finer (9/25).
Ex: F.C.C. Boyd; The John J. Ford, Jr. Collection; Ford XII (Stack's, 10/2005), lot 64; The Cedar Crest Collection / Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2010), lot 2001.
