Silver 1914 5 Cents Signed "G.L."

Republic Yuan Shih-kai silver Pattern "L. Giorgi" 5 Cents Year 3 (1914) MS64 NGC, Tientsin Mint, KM-Pn16, L&M-71, Kann-815C. A fantastic near-Gem Pattern issue, featured with the prolific "G.L" of Italian engraver Luigi Giorgi. Giorgi, who served as the chief mint engraver at the Tientsin Mint from 1910 to 1920, and worked in China during a pivotal transitional period as the nation shifted from an empire to a republic. He was one of the best known engravers in Italy and became famed in China for his interesting designs, such as the last of the Manchu dragons and his renowned silver dollar. These signed types are very desirable but even more so when found in such superior levels of preservation. At present, this piece is surpassed by only one other on the NGC census.

稀罕少見的民國三年袁像伍分「G.L.簽字版」

民國三年（1914）袁世凱像伍分銀樣幣「L.Giorgi簽字版」。MS64 NGC。
天津造幣廠。這枚近珍品樣幣超凡卓絕，刻有意大利雕刻師Luigi Giorgi的「G.L.」簽字。當時中國正值變革轉折的時期，從大清帝國改旗易幟成為中華民國，而他正於1910至1920年間擔任天津造幣廠的雕刻師。他被譽為意大利最具名氣的雕刻家之一。其匠心獨運的設計見於晚清龍洋和民國的袁大頭上，故在中國聲名大噪。這批簽字版誘人不已，若具備上佳品相更是魅力難擋。在NGC記錄中僅有一例評分在更勝一籌。
