Description

1801 Capped Bust Ten, AU55
Popular BD-2 Variety

1801 $10 BD-2, R.2, AU55 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/b. Star 1 is distant from the curl, while star 13 nearly touches the drapery. This BD-2 example shows a late die state, with intriguing vertical spines in Liberty's cap and the reverse die lapped to diminish signs of die clashing. Although the BD-2 variety is readily available in the current late die state, earlier BD-2 die stages without the cap spines are scarce-to-rare. Substantial mint luster remains throughout the lightly abraded Choice About Uncirculated surfaces, featuring sharply struck motifs and partially reflective fields. There are no adjustment marks present on the pleasing, greenish-gold surfaces.
