Description

Bavaria. "Duke Ludwig Wilhelm" gold Specimen Medal 1905 SP67 PCGS, Gebhardt-415. 38x31mm. 32.36gm. 0.986 fineness. By A. Borsch. A thoroughly pleasing example and the first we've yet handled of this elusive type, yielding an impression of quality confirmed by PCGS's advanced conditional assignment. Struck in a pleasing oval format with a seemingly matte finish, the offering displays not a hint of weakness or significant mark to distract the eye. Only a handful of these in gold have traded hands in the last decade, this being the finest certified of just two in the PCGS census. This, coupled with its exceptional provenance, directly from the estate of Ludwig Wilhelm, where it was issued on the 90th birthday of Prince Regent Luitpold and is surely worthy of a premium bid. Accompanied by the original case of issue.
