Wondrous Gold Pattern 2 Gulden

Holland. Provincial gold Specimen Pattern 2 Gulden ND (1681) SP62 PCGS, KM-Pn13, Delm-797 (R3), Vanhoudt/Saunders-1250. Struck to an 8 Ducat weight. Another impossibly rare off-metal Pattern from the Coenen Collection. Like the others offered in this sale, this was likely struck as a presentation piece and was never intended for circulation. International auction records show a smattering of 1 Gulden and 3 Gulden strikes, but we cannot locate another instance of the 2 Gulden coming under hammer. Highly lustrous with reflective fields, we note some trivial hairlines in line with the grade, but this remains a sight to behold that will knock the socks off of even the most seasoned Dutch specialists.
