1875 Twenty Cent in Nickel
Judd-1402, PR64+ Cameo

1875 20C Twenty Cents, Judd-1402, Pollock-1545, R.8, PR64+ Cameo PCGS. CAC. Ex: Simpson. The Bailly-designed obverse featuring the popular "Liberty at the Seashore" design, with Liberty seated, holding a pole with a Liberty Cap above and the other arm resting on a globe. This is paired with a reverse that is similar to the regular issued design. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. This is a major rarity among twenty cent patterns. Three or four pieces are known, but one is housed in the Connecticut State Library, leaving only two or three for collectors. (It should be noted only two pieces are actually traceable.) This is a magnificent piece whose fields are deeply mirrored with strongly contrasting, heavily frosted devices. Just a hint of light gray-golden toning is seen over each side. Identifiable by a spot below the AT in STATES. CAC: 1 in PR64 Cameo, 1 finer.
