Description

1875 Quarter, Struck in Copper
Judd-1416, PR65 Red

1875 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-1416, Pollock-1559, R.8, PR65 Red PCGS. Ex: Simpson. Made from the regular dies for the 1875 quarter dollar, and struck in copper with a reeded edge. In addition to an extensive series of twenty cent piece patterns and the Sailor Head gold patterns, a complete run of regular issue off-metal coins were produced in copper and aluminum. All of those pieces are rare, in every instance either High R.7 or R.8. Only three pieces are known in copper and two strikes in aluminum are confirmed. This is a rich, full red example that is essentially unchanged since 1875. The strike is complete throughout.
