Description

1940 Quarter, MS68
One of Four at PCGS, None Finer

1940 25C MS68 PCGS. Only a handful of 1940 quarters have achieved the formidable MS68 grade, PCGS and NGC combined. More than 35 million pieces were struck, yet Superb Gems at the MS67 level are scarce, and finer examples are considered major rarities. Throughout the Washington quarter silver series, MS68 pieces represent the pinnacle numeric grade -- there are no MS69 pieces certified by PCGS (1932-1964).

This vibrantly lustrous 1940 is brilliant at the centers, with iridescent colors emerging at various segments along the margins, gradually easing their way inward. A sharp strike approaches full details, while the eye appeal is extraordinary throughout. There are no mentionable marks or abrasions. We expect Registry Set specialists to pursue this lot with fervor. Population: 4 in 68, 0 finer (10/19).(Registry values: N991)
