1868 Five Cent Pattern in Nickel

1868 5C Five Cents, Judd-633, Pollock-705, R.5, PR64 PCGS. The obverse design is that of the three cent nickel, as adopted, but on a larger planchet, with minor design modifications appropriate to the larger diameter. The reverse features a Roman numeral V in the center, with a wreath encircling, scroll with IN GOD WE TRUST and Maltese cross above. This is the variant with the higher date. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Light gray-lilac toning is seen over each side of this moderately mirrored pattern.
