Description

1865 F-101a Dime, MS64+
Repunched Date

1865 10C Repunched Date, F-101a, R.5, MS64+ PCGS. Fortin states that "the top loop of a previously punched 6 is visible between the 8 and 6 digits in the date." A semiprooflike and essentially brilliant near-Gem. A lens reveals only infrequent and minute contact. The strike is intricate, and both sides exhibit a partial wire rim. The 1865 has a scant mintage of 10,000 pieces, since fractional currency replaced silver coinage during that Civil War year.
