Description

1857-O Quarter Eagle, MS61
Meager 34,000-Coin Mintage

1857-O $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Variety 1. This New Orleans quarter eagle issue is very scarce with a mintage of 34,000 coins and an estimated survivorship of 275 pieces. Many examples come softly struck at the centers, but not so here. The stars display complete radials, though some are clearer than others, and Liberty's curls are boldly detailed. Feather and claw definition is as strong as one may hope to find. Bright yellow-gold surfaces are lustrous with light marks. Census: 32 in 61, 15 finer (1/17).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25JE, PCGS# 7784, Greysheet# 8383)
