Description

1837 Feuchtwanger Cent, MS66
High-Grade Hard Times Token
HT-268, Breen 6-I

1837 1C Feuchtwanger Cent MS66 NGC. Low-120, HT-268, Breen 6-I, R.1. Dr. Lewis Feuchtwanger was an immigrant from Germany who attempted to interest the U.S. Mint in his soft white metal alloy known as German silver. Although his iconic eagle-and-snake cent tokens are best known, he also struck several elusive varieties of three cent tokens (HT-262 through HT-267), and two rare store cards (HT-260 and 261). The present Feuchtwanger cent is among the finest graded at NGC. The pristine olive-gray surfaces teem with cartwheel luster. The strike is fairly sharp, though incomplete as always in the centers. Listed on page 420 of the 2019 Guide Book.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2006), lot 5392, which realized $2,300.
