Description

1787 Connecticut Copper, MS63 Brown
Possibly the Finest Known Miller 32.1-X.3

1787 Connecticut, Draped Bust Left, M. 32.1-X.3, W-3215, R.4, MS63 Brown NGC. Both dies are unique to this marriage. This extraordinary 1787 Draped Bust copper is almost certainly the finest known survivor from the Miller 32.1-X.3 dies, ahead of a small number of AU examples including the Twin Leaf, Perkins, SLT, Ford, Hessberg, and Martin coins. Slight planchet roughness is evident at the weakly defined centers, with lustrous chocolate and olive-brown surfaces that display faint blue overtones. The strike is nicely centered with full legends and a bold date. More than half of the border details are on the planchet. Substantial mint red remains, especially on the reverse of this impressive piece. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
Ex: Jon Hanson (12/20/2000); Donald G. Partrick.
