Description

1844 Quarter Eagle, MS61
Low-Mintage Issue, Rare in Mint State

1844 $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. CAC. This is a lovely Mint State example of this antebellum low-mintage issue, struck to the extent of only 6,700 pieces. Only a handful are known in Mint State, of which the present piece is finest at PCGS. The strike is razor-sharp on this lustrous greenish-gold example, save for the eagle's lower left (facing) leg. Scattered abrasions are small but appear throughout both sides, accounting for the grade, and there is a minor dark spot near star 1, not overly distracting. Population: 1 in 61, 0 finer (12/13).(Registry values: P2)
