Description

Richly Frosted 1890-CC Half Eagle, MS 63 PCGS

1890-CC $5 MS 63 PCGS. After a six-year suspension in activities, the Carson City Mint produced 53,800 half eagles in 1890. This lovely Mint State survivor displays the bold (although not quite complete) impression and richly frosted surfaces that typify this issue. The vivid, yellow-gold faces reveal a trio of inconspicuous abrasions in the obverse field below Liberty's chin that apparently account for the MS 63 designation. This is, nonetheless, a premium quality piece for the grade whose double mintmark ensures that it will elicit strong bids from advanced Carson City specialists.
