WorldOrphans.org Philanthropy to Benefit
DALLAS, TX: Troy Wiseman's collections of American Colonial coinage and Hobo nickels will be auctioned by Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas at their January 3-6, 2007 official auction of the Florida United Numismatists convention. The auction will be held at the Orange County Convention facility in Orlando. Heritage's auctions at F.U.N. will total more than $50 million of rare coins and currencies. Many lot descriptions and full-color, enlargeable images can now be viewed online at HA.com as the catalog is prepared; the catalog will be officially posted and open for bidding in mid-December.
"Troy Wiseman assembled one of the great collection in American numismatic history," enthused Heritage President Greg Rohan, "and we were honored to sell the majority of his magnificent coin collection in our September 2006 Long Beach Signature auctions. "At F.U.N. we are offering his wonderful colonial coins - one of the oldest and most venerable in the American numismatic tradition, and his Hobo nickels - a curious combination of coins and carving that so many serious modern collectors enjoy pursuing. The Original Hobo Nickel Society meets at the F.U.N. convention, and their enthusiasm for these folk art masterpieces is infectious!"

"Troy Wiseman Collection is one of the most fascinating men I have ever met," continued Rohan. "The story of this exceptional collector, businessman, and philanthropist is about connections that extend far beyond coins. This is a story of one young man, who having fulfilled the American success story of 'rags to riches' is now dedicated to performing good deeds around the globe. He is confronting the global problem or orphans through the worldwide ministry of WorldOrphans.org."
Mr. Wiseman was born into a relatively poor family. He left his North Florida home of Ocala at seventeen years of age with his Bible and $300 dollars in his pocket. He arrived in Southern California (after working a few months in Texas, where he had run out of money) with nothing more than a few dollars, a strong work ethic instilled by his father and a former wrestling coach, and his faith. Through hard work, bolstered by his sense of adventure and capitalism, his business success blossomed. He co-founded Cami'z, Inc., a wholesale and retail apparel company that grew to become B.U.M. International, a $120 million clothing company with factories in 19 countries. Selling out of B.U.M at age 26 and feeling restless after a few months, he soon founded a new company, The InvestLinc Group. InvestLinc was built to serve the needs of former entrepreneurs and business executives alike, through a multifaceted financial holding company that leverages the intellectual, financial and relationship capital of those former entrepreneurs and business people. The InvestLinc Group focuses on serving both the personal and financial needs of over 4,000 high-net worth families.
Troy Wiseman is dedicating proceeds from the sale of his collections to World Orphans, a ministry he co-founded with his wife, Tina, in 1993. World Orphans has funded the opening of more than 500 orphanages in 46 developing countries, providing more than 25,000 children with love, care, and hope for the future. In fiscal 2006, 200-plus new facilities were funded by World Orphans. "If you would like to join Mr. Wiseman and Heritage in supporting the good works of WorldOrphans.org," concluded Rohan, "more information can be found on their website. We sincerely hope you will read about the wonderful deeds that have been accomplished through the dedication and generosity of Mr. Wiseman."
Highlights From The Troy Wiseman Collection
Willow Tree Shilling, AU58 PCGS, The Noe Roster #7 (Noe 2-B) Specimen
While the details of the creation of the "1652" coinage is shrouded in conjecture, this incredible high-grade survivor is definitely the # 7 coin on Sydney Noe's 1943 roster of 23 known specimens (since expanded to a mere 36 coins).
Undated (1790) Albany Church Penny, D Above, VF35 PCGS
A rarity of such importance that it is specifically noted in the introduction to the PCGS Registry Set.
1776 Continental $1, Pewter, EG FECIT, MS62 PCGS
The undenominated Continental "dollars" were engraved by Elisha Gallaudet (who also engraved colonial paper emissions) apparently as a demonstration to the Continental Congress. This is the Crosby Pl. VIII, Newman 3-D, Breen-1095, R.3 variety.
1783 Chalmers "Long Worm" Shilling AU58 PCGS
In 1783, Annapolis (Maryland) silversmith Captain John Chalmers struck various silver issues, possibly to secure a coinage contract with the Continental Congress, which met in Annapolis during portions of 1783 and 1784.
1796 Castorland Medal, Silver, Reeded Edge, MS64 PCGS
A high grade and very attractive example of a failed social experiment that resulted in the foundation of modern day Carthage, New York.
1787 Fugio Cent, "New Haven Restrike," MS66 Brown PCGS
The misnamed "New Haven Restrike" is a mid-19th century Fugio cent reproduction, but it has long been collected as an important part of the Fugio series.
Kentucky Token, Lancaster Edge, MS64 Red PCGS
A lustrous example of this popular America-themed issue from one of the first frontiers.
1737 Higley Cent, CONNECTICVT, VF25 PCGS
The CONNECTICVT is the first Higley variety, struck before the obverse legend changed from THE VALVE OF THREE PENCE to VALVE ME AS YOU PLEASE.
Crosby-18, Breen-238, Freidus 1.2-A. 130.4 grains.
Plated Cameo Clown by 'Bo' of Superior Quality
This is an original clown by the classic master Bo, with a raised metal ear. This coin is illustrated on page 35 in Del Romine's second book. Originally from the Bill Fivaz Collection.
Plated Reverse Carving by 'Bo' of a Donkey or Mule
This reverse carving of a donkey or mule (favorite subjects of Bo) is the plate coin on page 75 of Romine's first book, and allegedly is the coin Bo was working on when he injured his hand in 1957.
