Heritage to Auction Rarities at Central States
Dallas, TX -- Heritage Numismatic Auctions, Inc., the official auctioneer of the Central States Numismatic Society Convention in Columbus, will conduct its four-session Signature Sale April 25-27. The auction will be held in Room D-130 of the Greater Columbus Convention Center, with lot viewing in Hall D.The Morris Silverman Collection of Silver Dollars will lead off Session One at 7 PM on April 25. According to Heritage’s Executive VP Greg Rohan, “The single most important coin in the Silverman Collection is certainly the 1884 Trade Dollar (http://www.heritagecoin.com/hnaiphoto300.asp?288006007). One of just 10 coins known, this specimen is pedigreed to the collection of Ambassador and Mrs. R. Henry Norweb. Prior to their ownership, the coin was the property of Egypt’s King Farouk. The coin is certified PR63 PCGS, and it certain to entice spirited bidding by both floor bidders and Internet participants.”
“PCGS Registry Sets are once again well represented in our upcoming CSNS Signature Sale,” stated Bob Korver, Heritage’s Director of Auctions. “A 1953-S Half Dollar MS65 Full Bell Lines PCGS (http://www.heritagecoin.com/hnaiphoto300.asp?288113015) is the highlight of Steve Pascal’s Registry Set of Franklins, and the Dr. Richard Stevenson Registry Set of Walking Liberty Halves includes near-Gem representatives of such early issues as the 1917-D Obverse, 1917-D Reverse, 1917-S Reverse, and 1918-S. Also included is a 1941-S MS66 PCGS, the key to the widely collected short set. Finally, we are offering the Thomas Pike Registry Set of Proof Eisenhower Dollars.”
“Early Dollars enthusiasts will be amazed at the fabulous rarities that we are offering as Part Two of the Cardinal Collection,” continued Rohan. “A PCGS VF35 representative of the R.7 B-10 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar is being offered as lot 6688. We also have the Ostheimer, Boldener, Davis-Graves Specimen of the B-3 1795 Dollar, and the finest known B-7 1798 Draped Bust Dollar (http://www.heritagecoin.com/hnaiphoto300.asp?288041001). The former coin is net graded XF45 by ANACS, and the latter example is certified AU58 by PCGS.”
Opined Korver, “Colonial specialists will be amazed at the numerous rarities that we are offering as part of the Hudson Valley Collection. My personal favorite is an AU55 PCGS representative of the 1783 Chalmers Shilling. This coin is the finest known representative of the Short Worn, Breen-1101 variety. Also of note is a Lord Baltimore Sixpence XF45 PCGS, a 1776 Continenal Dollar, CURRENCY, Pewter, EG FECIT AU58 PCGS, and numerous Oak Tree and Pine Tree coins from the Massachusetts Bay Colony.”
“The Ted Clark Collection spearheads our offerings of overdate coinage,” continued Korver. “In fact, Clark is well known to collectors for discovering and publicizing many of these important numismatic curiosities. Of particular importance is the 1853/2 Double Eagle that we are offering as lot 7334. It is the plate coin in Walter Breen’s 1988 Encyclopedia.”
