Heritage to offer second complete set of Charlotte & Dahlonega Gold Coins: The William Miller Collection

Dallas, Texas: Heritage Numismatic Auctions has announced that the William Miller Collection of Charlotte & Dahlonega gold has been consigned to their February 1999 Long Beach Signature Sale. The complete collection is valued in excess of $3 million.

"An entire decade can go by without the opportunity to bid on an 1849-C Open Wreath gold dollar," noted Heritage Co-Chairman Steve Ivy, "but Heritage customers will have the opportunity to bid on two of the four known in early 1999. It is unparalleled in auction history to have two complete sets of Charlotte and Dahlonega gold offered by the same firm in consecutive sales."

"Numismatists may disagree over which collection of Charlotte & Dahlonega gold is the finest," added Heritage Co-Chairman Jim Halperin. "We know the answer: they both are, depending upon the measure used! The North Georgia 1849-C Open Wreath in AU-58 is without peer, but the Fine-15 Miller-Elrod specimen will still attract worldwide attention. The Miller coins are in extraordinary condition, many being the finest known in the population reports. In fact, the collection is noted for coins of unsurpassed rarity, quality, and pedigree."

Highlights of the William Miller Collection:

1849-C $1 Open Wreath, Fine-15 Ex: Elrod
1858-D $1, MS 65
1838-C $2.50, MS 63

"The coin market," added HNAI's Bob Korver, "is the strongest we have seen this decade. Demand for coins is so strong that Heritage added this February Signature Sale to our 1999 Auction Calendar, and within the week we had the William Miller Collection as our anchor consignment. Numismatists thinking of consigning can still benefit from all this demand, but only if they act quickly. Long Beach consignments will be accepted only until December 11th." For information about consigning, please contact the Heritage Consignor Hotline at 1-800-US COINS (872-6467) Extension 222 and ask for Leo Frese or Bob Merrill.

Complete lists of both the North Georgia & William Miller Collections are available on Heritage's website: www.heritagecoin.com. Photographs of many of the coins can also be found there.

Copies of the February 1999 Long Beach Signature Sale catalog will be available in mid-January for $15, or a free copy can be obtained by sending Heritage a copy of a recent invoice exceeding $1,000 from any coin dealer. A text listing will also be posted on Heritage's website. Annual subscriptions to our auction catalogs are also available for $70. Please see our website www.heritagecoin.com for details.
