Heritage Acquires 1870-S Seated $1 and 1885 Trade $1 at Auction for Over $2 Million
Dallas; Texas: Heritage Galleries was the successful purchaser of the two most valuable coins in the May 14 auction of the L. K. Rudolf collection at Stack’s auction in New York City. Heritage paid $1,092,500 for the finest known 1870-S Seated dollar establishing a new record for the series, and $920,000 for an NGC Proof 61 1885 Trade dollar.Heritage President Greg Rohan purchased both coins on behalf of a client. According to Rohan, “Our client wishes to remain anonymous at this time, but intends to purchase many other rarities in the future.” Heritage also acquired many other coins in the auction, including an NGC MS 65 1893-S Morgan dollar for $189,750. In total, Heritage purchased approximately 40% of the collection by dollar value.
