Heritage’s Platinum Night Auction Realizes more than $12.5 Million
Dallas, Texas: Heritage’s first Platinum Night auction was held on January 7th, as part of their official auctions at the 2004 annual convention of the Florida United Numismatists in Orlando. Although other Heritage sessions also contained important rarities, Platinum Night concentrated most of the very finest coins that Heritage auctioned at FUN into a single, spectacular catalog.
Platinum Night achieved $12,559,834 in sales, and 85.6% percent of the lots found new owners. Both the prices realized and the sell-thru rate is expected to climb further over the next few days, as bidders compete for Post-Auction Bargains at http://www.HeritageCoin.com.
The Platinum Night sale opened with the magnificent Green Pond Collection, the #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set of Dahlonega Mint gold coinage. A complete collection, most of the pieces are plated in the second edition of Doug Winter’s Gold Coins of the Dahlonega Mint, 1838-1861. The catalog for the Green Pond Collection will serve as an important reference for Dahlonega specialists, since the rarity, strike, surfaces, luster, and color of each coin is described in detail.
The 65-piece Green Pond Collection realized $1,704,300. The highlights include:
