Press Release - April 28, 2004

HERITAGE HOT SHEET: 1889-CC Silver $1 MS64 PL

An irregular news release about upcoming items in Heritage auctions

WHAT IT IS:

1889-CC Silver $1 MS64 Prooflike PCGS.

WHY IT'S COOL:

While the occasional Mint State 1889-CC Morgan is not particularly uncommon with prooflike fields, such coins are in constant demand by collectors as they represent the ultimate in aesthetic appeal for this key date Carson City issue. The glassy surfaces on the important near-Gem example offered here possess enough reflectivity that a DMPL rating had to be a consideration, and are untoned save for a few irregular splashes of peripheral color on the obverse. Just a touch of light chatter is seen here and there in the fragile fields, while a few shallow facial disturbances rule out a higher classification. One of the finer examples of this well known Morgan Dollar rarity that we have offered in quite some time. Population: 4 in 64, 0 finer (3/04).

WHAT IT'S WORTH:

This piece has a pre-auction estimate of $40,000+ on this piece.

WHEN IT'S BEING OFFERED:

Heritage 2004 Long Beach Signature Sale (Platinum Night) #349 to be held June 2, 2004.
