Press Release - June 8, 2004

Heritage World Coin Auction Garners $1.15 Million as part of $14+ Million Long Beach Signature Auction

Dallas, Texas: Heritage World Coin Auctions hosted a three-session Signature Auction on June 3 and 4, the 42nd major sale Heritage has held as the official auctioneer of the Long Beach Coin Expo. 2,385 of the 2,483 lots were hammered down to new owners for an exemplary sell-thru rate of 96.05%. Total prices realized were $1,158,295. Among the over 1500 participants who placed bids, 432 were successful in securing at least one lot.

"The Savannah River Site Collection of Mexican Balance Scale gold brought exceptional prices," asserted Heritage World Coin Director Warren Tucker. "This world-class collection was assembled over two decades, and includes pedigrees from renowned numismatists such as Amon Carter, Jr. and John Jay Pittman. An Uncirculated Oaxaca Gold 60 Pesos of 1916 garnered $24,150, well above the high estimate of $17,000."

  • Lot 13908, Mexico, Oaxaca, Gold 60 Pesos 1916, Fr-174, KM-755, Brilliant Uncirculated, realized $24,150
  • "An extensive collection of Byzantine gold coins from the Geneva Collection was a highlight of the ancients session," Tucker continued. "An impressive collection of silver Japanese coinage, both pre-Meiji and Meiji, easily surpassed its estimated prices."

Other important consignments included the Enterprise Collection of French Minor Coinage, Part Two; The Morris Geiger Collection, Part Six; and The Michael Goldston Collection of British Milled Coinage.
