Karl Scheible Collection of First Year of Issue Coins To Anchor Heritage's Pittsburgh ANA Auction

Dallas, Texas: An exciting type set of First Year of Issue of each copper and silver denomination will be sold by Heritage Numismatic Auctions in its official ANA Signature Auction taking place in Pittsburgh, August 18-21 at the ANA's World's Fair of Money. Assembled by numismatist Karl Scheible, the set celebrates the dreams of many collectors who have pursued the 1796 Quarter and the 1794 Dollar without success.

"Karl Scheible has assembled a very special collection," noted Heritage President Greg Rohan, "featuring many of the most desirable coins in numismatics. Many type collectors seek the most common issues, but Mr. Scheible instead choose the more desirable - and more difficult - route of seeking the first year of issue for each design type. His 1794 Dollar, the bedrock of any such effort, is a very pleasing VF25 certified by PCGS, and his 1796 Quarter is an attractive, problem-free coin PCGS certified XF45. As a youth, Mr. Scheible was introduced to coin collecting and filling Whitman albums by his father Wayne, who remains an avid collector of ancient Roman coins. Gradually, Mr. Scheible found an interest in early American history that soon became related to coins."

According to Mr. Scheible: "I soon developed an interest in the design and subsequent introduction of early U.S. coins. In 1985, just after I got married, I distinctly remember setting the goal to collect the first year of issue of each denomination. I completed that collection in 2000 with the acquisition of the 1796 Quarter. I was very selective in choosing my coins. Even though it might be a few years between available examples of a particular coin, I never compromised on the coins that I chose to add to my collection."

Mr. Scheible has many interests outside of numismatics. He recently completed his MBA at the University of Rochester in June 2004. Prior to attending graduate school, he served as President of Flower City Printing, Inc., Lazer Incorporated, and PCS, Inc. He founded Lazer Incorporated in 1990 and the company was admitted into the Management Plus Hall of Fame in 2001, after ten years of industry innovation and management excellence. After selling his business interests, Mr. Scheible intends to pursue a career in executive development by establishing a consulting practice in Texas. Mr. Scheible has been married to Linda for 19 years and they have two sons, Steven (17) and Cameron (14). He is a marathon runner, biker, avid hockey player, and golfer. He was also a professional rally driver as a privateer and for the Subaru North America factory team in 2001, and was a two-time North American and three-time SCCA national champion driver. Mr. Scheible has appeared in network television commercials for both Volkswagen and Subaru, and has performed stunt driving for two Volkswagen commercials. He instructs high performance driving for the Porsche Club of America and other car club organizations.
