Press Release - August 24, 2004

Heritage's Pittsburgh ANA Signature Auction Sales Exceed $20 million Prices Realized Record Doubled!

Dallas, Texas: Heritage Numismatic Auctions Inc.'s 2004 Pittsburgh ANA Signature Auction, the official auction of the American Numismatic Association's World's Fair of Money, realized $20,102,053 in Pittsburgh, August 18-21 (with post-auction sales still climbing). Complete catalog listings, enlargeable images, and prices realized are available in the Permanent Auction Archives at www.HeritageCoins.com.

"We expected to be pleased with the results from our Pittsburgh ANA auction," explained Heritage President Greg Rohan, "but even we were surprised at the strength of the bidding - both in the room and through the Internet - on the incredible rarities contained in the catalog. The current market's twin-demands for rarity and quality were well met by the hundreds of 'Finest Known' and 'Condition Census' coins that we offered in Pittsburgh. The JFS Collection, which contained the #1 All-Time Complete Collection of Classic Commemoratives, alone contained dozens of coins graded with 'none finer.' Plus, there is simply no substitute for the demand generated by being the official auctioneer and presenting the auction to all those attending the convention."

"Our Pittsburgh ANA" noted Heritage's Co-Chairman Jim Halperin, "contained individual rarities from more than 250 individual consignors in addition to our many anchor collections. Many of our consignors, anchors and anonymous alike, were 'repeat' clients - consignors who entrusted Heritage with even more of their beloved coins. They were obviously thrilled with their prices realized from previous sales. Astonishingly enough, the combination of more consignors, more Internet bidders, and more wonderful coins at higher prices produced a sales record that DOUBLED our previous largest ANA prices realized. Our record had been our $9.8 million official auction at the Atlanta 2001 ANA, although at two other ANAs -- the 1997 NYC and the 1998 Portland -- our official auctions also broke the $9 million mark. While we knew that Pittsburgh, our 32nd official ANA auction, would smash our own record, we are humbled by the support evidenced by the worldwide numismatic community."

Featured collections in Heritage's Pittsburgh ANA Signature Auction included: The Harold W. Anderson Collection, Part Two; The Del Rio Collection, Part Two; The Frank O. Fredericks Collection, Part Five; The Greenwich Collection, Part Two; The Reed Hawn Collection of Mercury Dimes; The Dr. Frank Lanza Collection of Walking Liberty Halves; The Velma & Bowie Lynch Collection, Part Four; The Estate of John Naylor, Part Two; The Paulsboro Collection, Part Three; The Larry Rausch Collection, Part One; The David Raynard Collection, Part Two; The JFS Collection, Part Two; The Karl Scheible Collection; and The John Michael Stuart Collection, Part Two.

"Before the ANA," concluded Rohan, "I predicted that 'Specialists in gold coinage may consider this the most exciting ANA auction ever.' In retrospect, that was an understatement; specialists in every area found coins that were worth paying record prices for. We are simply thrilled at the success of this show, which bodes well for our upcoming auctions in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale (FUN)."
