Heritage to Auction Rasmussen Large Cents On January 13 at FUN in Fort Lauderdale

Dallas, Texas: The magnificent Wes Rasmussen Large Cent Collection, formed by a former President of the Early American Coppers society, will be sold on Thursday evening, January 13, 2005 at 7:00 P.M. at the FUN show in Fort Lauderdale. Heritage is the official auctioneer of the Florida United Numismatists organization. This will be FUN's 50th anniversary convention.

Mr. Rasmussen's incredible collection of 784 Large Cents is essentially complete by Sheldon or Newcomb numbered varieties from 1793 to 1843. A few Sheldon "NCs" are also included. The coins are of superlative quality and rarity, and many are Condition Census. The Rasmussen coins also feature impressive pedigrees, many from the famous early American copper collections of Robinson S. Brown Jr., R.E. Naftzger Jr., and Dr. William H. Sheldon; many have also appeared as plate coins in various large cent references.

"Wes Rasmussen is a talented and knowledgeable numismatist and scholar," said Heritage President Greg Rohan, "and we all are inspired by his long time dedication to numismatics and his many contributions to the EAC."

Lead cataloger for the Rasmussen Collection will be Mark Borckardt, Heritage's Senior Cataloger. He received the Early American Coppers Literary Award, as well as the Numismatic Literary Guild's "Book of the Year Award," for Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of Early United States Cents, 1793-1814, which Borckardt edited, and which was published in 2000. He was an early member of the Early American Coppers, joining that organization in 1973.
