At $450,000+, Latest Heritage Internet Currency Auction #34112 Far Exceeds All Past CA Sales

Dallas, Texas: Heritage's 1,706-lot Internet CurrencyAuction.com sale #34112, which closed Tuesday night, November 30, sold 1,354 lots (79.36% of lots offered). Total sales were $453,977.00. With 764 bidders participating, 450 were successful. 64 lots were purchased after-auction by 36 bidders, for a total of $20,385.50.

According to Heritage-CAA expert Jason Bradford, "These results are really amazing. This sale surpassed our last highest-volume sale back in March by well over $110,000. Comparing that sale to this one, the number of bidders was almost identical, but prices realized were surpassed by 20%. This puts our Internet auction totals at over $2.5 million for 2004, as compared with slightly under $1.5 million last year!"

Every single-item lot includes full-color enlargeable images of the obverse and reverse, to help bidders determine their bids with confidence.

Below are some of the highlights from the November 30 CurrencyAuction.com sale:

Fr. 2221-J $5,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. Crisp Uncirculated.
This is a low serial numbered example (J00000104A) from the Kansas City district, one of only 2,400 pieces printed. Far less than that are known, and $5,000s in general are much scarcer than $10,000s due to the presence of a couple of small hoards of Ten Thousands that have reached the market in recent years. No such hoards have inflated the number of survivors of this denomination, and surviving examples are always highly treasured by collectors. This note is fully uncirculated, and easily looks Choice or perhaps a bit finer. There is a very well done repair of a small edge tear in the bottom margin, but it is doubtful that most viewers would notice, even under close inspection, unless it were mentioned. Realized $48,875.00

Fr. 1217 $500 1922 Gold Certificate Extremely Fine.
Only 50 examples are known of this one-number type. This is a new piece to the census, magnificently bright, with its full orange color on both sides. The note is absolutely problem free, with strictly original surfaces and not a hint of a defect. The blue serial numbers, bright red seal and vibrant gold overprint on the face along with the razor-sharp, lifelike Lincoln vignette give this note explosive eye appeal. We've seen a few examples in technically higher grade, although no uncirculated notes are known, but if you are looking for pure originality and fresh color, this is the one for you. Realized $17,250.00

Fr. 335 $50 1891 Silver Certificate About New.
This very pretty note has a center fold and a few corner folds. It's beautifully bright, with broad even margins on both sides and tons of eye appeal. This is a perenially popular high denomination type, and impressive examples are truly difficult to locate with any frequency. Realized $5,175.00
