The William & Harrison Hiatt Registry Collection of Gem Walkers To Sell at Heritage's FUN 2005 Signature Auction

Dallas, Texas: Heritage Numismatic Auctions will be selling a complete Gem set of Walking Liberty Half Dollars in their upcoming FUN Signature Auction, to take place January 12 to 15 in Fort Lauderdale.

"The Collection of Walking Liberty Half Dollars formed by William & Harrison Hiatt," explained Heritage President Greg Rohan, "is multi-generational, in every sense of the word. The Gem set of Liberty Walking Halves offered here was assembled by the consignor and his father starting in the 1970s, and is currently ranked #4 on the PCGS Registry (and #9 All-Time, with a weighted average grade of 65.25)."

"The collecting habit had been inculcated by William's philatelist grandfather," continued Rohan, "who inspired Harrison to collect both stamps and coins. William Hiatt started collecting coins as a boy at his father's side, a traditional that continued during all their decades together."

"It was a bonding, common interest that we could share forever; neither one of us was ever too young or too old to share," explained William Hiatt. This popular series was pursued by the Hiatts, who considered Walkers "the most beautiful coin minted in America."

In addition to this Gem set, and their MS64 Registry Walker set coming up in February Long Beach, the Hiatts also assembled an MS 63 set which has been given to the fourth generation. According to William, "Collecting coins is looking at a slice of history, gone by but not forgotten." In the case of the Hiatts, this has been a family affair that will soon stretch over the century mark.
