Heritage to Auction Rarities in Santa Clara
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Numismatic Auctions, Inc. will conduct the official auction of the upcoming Santa Clara Expo on November 16-17. Bob Korver, Heritage's Director of Auctions, stated: "The three-session sale will offer rarities from, among other important consignments, the Alfred S. Lippman Collection, the Liberty, Texas Collection, the Ward M. Fry Collection, part one of the L. Sal Westerman Collection, and the Dan O'Meara Collection. From interesting Colonials to rare and beautiful proof double eagles, this sale offers coins for all tastes and budgets. Visit http://www.HeritageCoin.com to view the highlights and place bids.""Perhaps the most important coin in the Santa Clara Signature Sale, and certainly one of my favorites, is the satin proof 1907 High Relief Saint-Gaudens double eagle," noted Heritage Executive VP Greg Rohan. "The Mint produced an unknown, although limited number of these impressive coins for presentation purposes. While business strike High Relief double eagles are beautiful in their own right, anyone who views this stunning proof will agree that its exactness of strike and pristine features do full justice to Saint-Gaudens' revolutionary design. This coin has been certified PR 66 by NGC."
Error specialists and Lincoln cent collectors alike should take special interest in Heritage's offering of a 1944 cent struck on a steel planchet. "Although not as famous as the 1943 copper cents, the 1944 steel cents are equally fascinating," continued Korver. "The MS 60 PCGS specimen that we will auction as lot 6740 is one of a handful of P-mint examples confirmed."
