Heritage Auctions Realize More Than $2.7 Million in Santa Clara
Dallas, Texas: Heritage's November 2000 Santa Clara Signature Sale realized $2.5 million and sold 92% of the lots in the auction. Conducted November 16-17, the sale was the official auction of the Santa Clara Coin Expo, and does not include an additional $236,000 realized by Heritage's November 2000 Santa Clara Bullet Auction. Bob Korver, Heritage's Director of Auctions, stated: "Once again, the strong collector base in Silicon Valley has resulted in excellent prices realized for our Santa Clara sales. The competition between Internet, mail, and floor bidders drove up the prices on the numerous fresh coins that we offered in the Signature Sale. This is, of course, one of Heritage's strongest suits as an auction house: we maximize our exposure in the numismatic community and obtain the highest possible realized prices for our consignors.""I was thrilled with the performance of many collector coins in the Santa Clara Sale," noted Heritage Executive VP Greg Rohan. "Take for example the 1795 Flowing Hair dollar that we sold as lot 5978; this coin, which PCGS graded VF 20, realized $3,105 even though the current Coin Dealer Newsletter bid is only $1,850. And no less impressive is the realized price of $13,800 for the 1796 Draped Bust quarter VF 35 PCGS that we offered as lot 6877; this coin's CDN bid in XF 40 is $11,500."
"Our offering of a satin proof 1907 High Relief Saint-Gaudens double eagle in Santa Clara speaks volumes about this importance of this sale," continued Rohan. "Certified PR 66 by NGC and sold as lot 7328, this coin realized $49,450."
