Press Release - December 21, 2000

The Rare Coin Estate Handbook is already a Numismatic Bestseller

Dallas, Texas: Ivy Press, an affiliate of Heritage Rare Coin Galleries and Heritage Numismatic Auctions, announced that it has sold over 5,000 copies of The Rare Coin Estate Handbook during the book's first 75 days of publication, an exceptionally strong showing for a numismatic work. James Halperin, co-author and one of Heritage's principles, commented, "Amazing. It took my grading book, How to Grade U.S. Coins, about two years to sell that many copies!"

Greg Rohan, also a co-author, was less surprised. "I deal with serious, advanced collectors every day," Rohan said, "so I've heard all the horror stories. Bad tax planning or poor record-keeping resulting in the IRS taking all the profits from the collector who took all the risk and did all the work. Charitable donations made without realizing proper tax benefits, or collections liquidated by the receiving charity at an inopportune time. Great collections, meticulously assembled, only to be ruined by poor storage methods, or lost to burglars or dishonest trustees, lawyers or financial advisers. Inheritances sold by unknowledgeable heirs for a fraction of their true value. So I knew how much demand there would be for a book like this. There is simply nothing else out there to help collectors avoid all the common pitfalls, and intelligently plan for the inevitable day when their collection will be sold, either by them or their heirs."

The Rare Coin Estate Handbook is only 90 pages long, but those pages are packed with great information about:

  • storage and preservation
  • record-keeping
  • security precautions
  • insuring the collection
  • selling outright or through agents
  • selling at auction (public and online)
  • tax planning and charitable donation strategies
  • finding out how much the collection is really worth
  • maximizing buyer competition when you sell
  • and much, much more.

"We are on a mission," added Steve Ivy, the third co-author. "We simply got tired of hearing about people whose lack of planning cost them or their loved ones dearly. The best part is that once you've read this book, its convenient size makes it perfect for inclusion alongside your collection in a bank vault or safe deposit box -- great insurance to make sure your family has proper advice no matter what happens to you."

The Rare Coin Estate Handbook normally sells for $12.95 plus $2.05 shipping and handling. However, Heritage has a special price of only $6.95 plus $2.05 shipping (no additional shipping charge for multiple orders) if you order direct.
